'Treat game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he managed.

Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained the defendant proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the police once more.

She stated the defendant then played the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
