The Former President's Regime of Retribution and Reward

Trump's intense urge for payback has rapidly evolved into a methodical system. During the twelve months, the leader's fury and whims have taken on the form of official policies in ways reminiscent to historical repressive systems. Government officials who fail to comply are immediately removed and replaced by devotees. Critical officials who question him face indictment, trial and punishment. Opponents have been labeled under executive directives as “anti-American”, “opposed to religious values” and “opposing economic freedom”, and warned with prosecution as “security threats”.

Federal Agencies Remade

Every situation involving targeting of critics and leniency for his allies displays its own distinct characteristics. But, notwithstanding their particular character, they exemplify expressions of what has arisen as a systematic approach. Such events are not random. Trump's cleansing of Department of Justice prosecutors and Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel, alongside his installation of loyalists in key roles, commenced quickly, promptly assumed a regularity, and has now been formed into a regime. Federal prosecutors and the law enforcement agency have been restructured into ideological bodies under the president's explicit command to implement his directives. Wrongdoing has been turned into standard. It constitutes the apparatus of revenge.

Leadership is more concerned with punishing the chief's alleged adversaries than they are with safeguarding our public welfare.

Within the System

The foundation of this mechanism has been revealed in the legal complaint of multiple previous senior law enforcement officials submitted in September in the federal court in DC against agency head an administration figure and top lawyer Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a campaign of payback against the officials for what Defendants deemed to be a refusal to demonstrate sufficient allegiance”. In the complaint that one official, the former temporary head, describes a conversation in which Patel “publicly confessed the unlawfulness of his behavior”.

He had tried to shield law enforcement officers from being terminated, the complaint states. The director told him that “administration officials” – understood by Driscoll to be the executive branch and DoJ – had directed him to fire anyone who they identified as having been involved in a legal probe against Trump. The filing goes on: “He stated that he had to dismiss the personnel his bosses told him to remove, because his ability to hold his own position depended on the ouster of the agents who were involved in matters involving the President. The director noted that there was nothing he or Driscoll could do to stop these or any other dismissals, because ‘the agency attempted to place the President in jail and he remembers.’” Once the official told Patel he was disregarding the agency's own regulations, he reportedly said “he understood that and he knew the character of the swift terminations were probably illegal”.

Extensive Consequences

Following his claimed acknowledgment to Driscoll, the Department of Justice and the FBI have been gutted and reorganized for his retribution system. Multiple of the agency's senior executives were dismissed or forced out in the initial period of the government. Approximately thousands of professional attorneys at the justice department have taken a “voluntary departure plan”. No fewer than multiple government attorneys, such as those in the southern district of New York, quit in dissent over what they regarded as partisan influence in withdrawing the criminal prosecution against the local official, a political figure, in return for his assistance with the administration's federal agency arrests of foreign nationals. The ethics division of the justice department, which oversees misconduct investigations, has been cut down to two attorneys. The rights protection unit has been severely reduced: 70% of its personnel has resigned. A third of top officials at the justice department have left. The unit enforcing ecological regulations has lost 50% its management.

Incentives and Punishments

Concerning the Adams case, the acting US attorney for the NY office, she, stepped down in protest against what she labeled as the “exchange”. A key figure, his “enforcement chief,” showed up as the agent with him on a media outlet to state: “Unless he complies, I'll reappear in the city.”. Meanwhile, another figure, previously the justice department figure and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the agreement, was awarded an appellate federal judgeship, a possible pathway to the supreme court.

Trump's protection for wrongdoings committed while in power, granted by the extraordinary decision of the Republican majority on the judicial body, thus blocking his prosecution over the January 6 insurrection and safeguarding his public standing for the 2024 election, is the cornerstone on which he relies to shield his supporters. With such immunity, he has been freed to permit wrongdoing. The consequence of the judicial ruling saturates his administration and the Republican Party down to its bones. Trump v United States has metastasized. As the former president's legal adviser the figure remarked about the Watergate
